Diplo’s Major Lazer unveils “Que Calor” featuring J Balvin and Dominican dembow pioneer El Alfa
Diplo’s Major Lazer unveils “Que Calor” featuring J Balvin and Dominican dembow pioneer El Alfa, alongside a brand new video today; listen and watch HERE. Following previous collaborations with both featured artists “Que Calor” takes inspiration from each of their home countries, sampling Toto La Momposina’s traditional Colombian-cumbia classic “Curara” and Dominican dembow rhythms. The Jamaica-via-Dominican Republic cousin of reggaeton is rooted in dancehall riddims and hip-hop sounds and has been taking the Latin world by storm thanks in large part to El Alfa and his collaborators.
Directed by VMA and BET Award winner Colin Tilley (Kendrick Lamar, Future, Nicki Minaj) and choreographed by fellow VMA winner Calvit Hodge, the video stars Major Lazer’s Diplo and Ape Drums as well as Balvin and El Alfa alongside two of the band’s legendary Lazer Gyals, Sara Bivens and Helen Gedlu.
The new track follows summer release “Make It Hot” featuring Brazilian superstar Anitta and is the latest from Major Lazer’s forthcoming and highly-anticipated fourth album. The tracks are the latest examples of a rising trend of collaborations between Latin music’s biggest stars and global dance artists, and a continuation of Major Lazer’s longstanding celebration of Latin music, notably with the Daddy Yankee remix of their 2013 smash “Bumaye,” and collaborations with Machel Montano, Kali Uchis, Pabllo Vittar and more.
Major Lazer single ‘Can’t Take It From Me (feat. Skip Marley
Fresh off the back of the massive success of new EP ‘Europa’ as well as new Major Lazer single ‘Can’t Take It From Me (feat. Skip Marley), superstar DJ and producer Diplo releases a brand new video for his Octavian-assisted single ‘New Shapes’. The single featured on ‘Europa’, a six-track love letter to the continent where he cut his teeth as a DJ and producer that featured collaborations with the likes of Niska, IAMDDB and more. Meanwhile the woozy, psychedelia-drenched video was directed by teenage prodigy Dominic Sesto and stars Octavian.
Diplo, born Thomas Wesley Pentz, is one of the most dynamic forces in music today under his own name, as well as being a founding member of Major Lazer. As the world’s most in-demand producer, Diplo has worked with artists such as Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Madonna, Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Britney Spears, M.I.A., Lil Yachty, MØ and many more alongside his recent projects with Silk City and LSD to become one of the most streamed artists in the world.
Diplo feat. Octavian: "New Shapes" Song and Video out now
Diplo feat. Cam: "So Long" Song and Video out now
