Joanne "Jo" Murray, OBE (née Rowling; born 31 July 1965), better known under the pen name J. K. Rowling is a British author best known as the creator of the Harry Potter fantasy series, the idea for which was conceived whilst on a train trip from Manchester to London in 1990. The Potter books have gained worldwide attention, won multiple awards, sold more than 400 million copies, and been the basis for a popular series of films.
Aside from writing the Potter novels, Rowling is perhaps equally famous for her "rags to riches" life story, in which she progressed from living on welfare to multi-millionaire status within five years. The 2008 Sunday Times Rich List estimated Rowling's fortune at £560 million ($798 million), ranking her as the twelfth richest woman in Britain. Forbes ranked Rowling as the forty-eighth most powerful celebrity of 2007, and Time magazine named her as a runner-up for its 2007 Person of the Year, noting the social, moral, and political inspiration she has given her fandom. She has become a notable philanthropist, supporting such charities as Comic Relief, One Parent Families, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain, and the Children's High Level Group.

Dan Brown (born June 22, 1964) is an American author of thriller fiction, best known for the 2003 bestselling novel, The Da Vinci Code. Brown's novels, which are treasure hunts set in a 24-hour time period, feature the recurring themes of cryptography, keys, symbols, codes, and conspiracy theories. His books have been translated into over 40 languages, and as of 2009, sold over 80 million copies.
Brown's novels that feature the lead character Robert Langdon also include historical themes and Christianity as recurring motifs, and as a result, have generated controversy. Brown states on his website that his books are not anti-Christian, though he is on a 'constant spiritual journey' himself, and says of his book The Da Vinci Code that it is simply "an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate" and suggests that the book may be used "as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith".

Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is an American writer of contemporary horror fiction, science fiction, fantasy literature, and screenplays. An estimated 300–350 million copies of King's novels and short story collections have been sold, and many of his stories have been adapted for film, television, and other media. King has written a number of books using the pen name Richard Bachman, and one short story, "The Fifth Quarter", as John Swithen.
In 2003 the National Book Foundation awarded King the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.

John Sandford is the pseudonym of the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and best-selling novelist John Roswell Camp. Camp was born on February 23, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He received a B.A. in American History and a Masters in Journalism from the University of Iowa. Camp worked for the Miami Herald from 1971 to 1978. In 1978 he moved to Minneapolis and started working for the Saint Paul Pioneer Press as a features reporter before becoming a daily columnist at the newspaper in 1980. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1980, for a series of stories on Native American culture. In 1986 he won the Pulitzer for Non-Deadline Feature Writing for a series of stories collectively titled "Life on the Land: An American Farm Family". The series, written during the midwest farm crisis, followed a typical southwest Minnesota farm family through the course of a full year. He stopped writing full-time for the Pioneer Press in 1989, although he didn't stop entirely until the next year.
In 1989 Camp wrote two novels that would become the first books of his two best-selling series. Both novels, The Fool's Run of the Kidd series and Rules of Prey of the Prey series, were accepted and due to be published three months apart. The Fool's Run was published under the name "John Camp", but the publisher asked Camp to provide a pseudonym for Rules of Prey so it was published under the name "John Sandford". After the Prey series proved to be more popular, with its charismatic protagonist Lucas Davenport, The Fool's Run and all of its subsequent sequels have been published under the "Sandford" name.
In 2007 Sandford started a third series featuring Virgil Flowers, who previously was a supporting character in Invisible Prey.

Françoise Barré-Sinoussi obtient son doctorat en 1974 à la Faculté des sciences de Paris. Chercheuse à l'INSERM à partir de 1975, elle mène des travaux sur des thèmes liés au sida.
En janvier 1983, Willy Rozenbaum envoie la première biopsie ganglionnaire d'un patient atteint de « lymphadénopathie généralisée », c'est-à-dire au stade de « pré-sida » (avant l'apparition d'une immunodéficience profonde), prélevée à l'hôpital de la Pitié-Salpétrière. Luc Montagnier, après avoir disséqué le ganglion qui lui a été confié, le met en culture. Pendant les trois semaines qui suivent, Jean-Claude Chermann et Françoise Barré-Sinoussi analysent régulièrement l'activité rétrotranscriptase du surnageant des cultures afin de déterminer l'éventuelle présence d'un rétrovirus. Une telle activité est détectée, mais elle s'associe systématiquement à une mort cellulaire. D'où l'idée d'impliquer les équipes du centre de transfusion sanguine de Pasteur afin de récupérer des globules blancs de donneurs, de les mettre en culture et d'y injecter le surnageant des cultures. L'activité enzymatique rétrovirale est à nouveau détectée et l'effet cytopathogène du virus sur les lymphocytes CD4 est prouvé.
Les autres personnes qui ont participé à la découverte du virus de l'immunodéficience humaine (VIH) sont Willy Rozenbaum, Françoise Brun-Vezinet et Jean-Claude Chermann.
En 1988, elle intègre l'Institut Pasteur où elle occupe le poste de chef d’unité. Entre 1988 et 1998, elle participe à des programmes collectifs sur la recherche du vaccin contre le VIH, utilisant des primates.
Françoise Barré-Sinoussi devient responsable de son propre laboratoire à l'Institut Pasteur en 1998 et met en place des programmes de recherche sur les déterminants viraux et des hôtes de la pathogénèse du VIH. En 2008, sa recherche se tourne vers les régulations congénitales des infections par le VIH.

Following his departure from Gucci (and YSL), Ford opened the fashion house, Tom Ford. Ford began with accessories; his line of eyewear was the first to become successful through a continuing partnership with Marcolin SPA. The Tom Ford line now covers Menswear, Beauty, Eyewear, and both Men and Women's Accessories. In 2006, he also established a fragrance line called Tom Ford Beauty. In early 2006, Ford attracted media attention for appearing fully clothed on the cover of Vanity Fair alongside Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson, both nude.
Ford's first 'Tom Ford' flagship store opened on April 12, 2007 on New York City's Madison Avenue. In Spring 2008, Ford opened his first boutique outside of the United States in Zurich, Switzerland located at Munsterhof 17. In September 2008 Ford opened a boutique in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Harry Rosen store on Bloor street.
In 2008, Ford directed his first film, A Single Man, which is based on the identically-named novel by Christopher Isherwood. It was adapted to the screen by Ford and David Scearce. The film premiered on September 11, 2009 at the 66th Venice International Film Festival and was nominated for a Golden Lion. Colin Firth, who played the protagonist, George, was awarded the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the festival for his performance in the film.
In June 2009, Ford appeared at Selfridges in London to launch his new fragrance Bois Marocain.
In the summer of 2009, Ford also designed costumes for the world premiere of "The Letter" which was an opera performed six times only at the Santa Fe Opera.

Henriette Elisabeth Joop, bekannt als Jette Joop (* 17. Februar 1968 in Braunschweig), ist eine deutsche Schmuck- und Modedesignerin. Sie ist die Tochter des bekannten Modedesigner Wolfgang Joop und seiner ehemaligen Frau, der Journalistin Karin Joop-Metz.
Sie wuchs zusammen mit ihrer jüngeren Schwester Florentine (* 1974) in Hamburg auf und zog mit 17 Jahren nach Oxford/England, wo sie ihr Abitur machte. 1989 studierte sie zunächst in der Schweiz, dann Industriedesign am Pasadena Art Center College of Design in Kalifornien. Nach dem Studium folgten Arbeiten für die Designer Barry Kieselstein-Cord (1992 bis 1995) und Ralph Lauren (1996) in New York.
1996 zurück in Hamburg, machte Jette Joop sich selbständig und gründete ihre eigene Firma Jette Joop Europe (15 Mitarbeiter), die mittlerweile JETTE GmbH heißt. Diese arbeitet zusammen mit Kooperationspartnern, darunter Christ/Douglas, Müller & Meirer, Coty Prestige und WMF. Inzwischen entwirft Jette Joop Schmuck, Schuhe, Taschen, Damen- und Herren-Mode, Parfum und hat ein Fertighaus für das Unternehmen Viebrockhaus gestaltet. Ein Musterhaus steht in der Lüneburger Heide. Seit 2009 ist ihr erstes Besteck in Kooperation mit WMF auf dem Markt. 2003 war Jette Joop Vertretungs-Professorin an der Universität Duisburg-Essen. Ebenfalls 2003 gestaltete sie eine Hans-Hummel-Skulptur.
Sie hat eine Tochter (* 1997). Vater ist Alessandro Spitzy, ein Geo-Physiker, mit dem sie sich die Erziehung des Kindes teilt. Von 2001 bis 2004 war Jette Joop mit Alexander zu Schaumburg-Lippe liiert, eine Beziehung, die von Anfang an große mediale Beachtung fand. Im Februar 2008 heiratete sie ihren Freund Christian Elsen. Die beiden haben einen gemeinsamen Sohn (* 2009).
Joop ist als Kinderbotschafterin für das Rote Kreuz tätig. Außerdem unterstützte sie die Aufklärungskampagne zu HPV (Humane Papillomviren) des Deutschen Grünen Kreuzes (DGK). Im Jahr 2007 entwarf Jette Joop die neue Uniform für die deutsche Billigfluggesellschaft Air Berlin.

Wolfgang Joop wurde am 18. November 1944 als Sohn von Gerhard und Charlotte Joop in Potsdam geboren. Er wuchs auf dem Bauernhof der Großeltern am Park von Sanssouci auf, bis die Familie 1954 nach Braunschweig übersiedelte, wo sein Vater als Chefredakteur des Kulturmagazins "Westermann's Monatshefte" arbeitete.
Wolfgang Joop heiratete 1970 die Kunststudentin Karin Benatzky, von der er mittlerweile geschieden ist. Er hat zwei Töchter - Jette Joop (auch als Mode- und Schmuckdesignerin tätig) und Florentine Joop. Seit der Trennung von seiner Frau lebt Joop in einer gleichgeschlechtlichen Partnerschaft.
Er bezeichnet sich selbst als Kosmopolit und besitzt unter anderem ein Domizil in Monte Carlo, ein Penthouse in New York und zwei Villen in Potsdam (Villa "Wunderkind" und Villa "Rumpf"), seiner Heimatstadt, der er sich sehr verbunden fühlt und in der er nach langjährigem Aufenthalt in Hamburg seit 1998 wieder wohnt.
